Workplace Theft...

Here is something pretty amazing to me - theft in the workplace. Even worse, theft by a co-worker. I guess in the gym it might make you feel a little better, but at work? Yesterday my intern Luke had his camera stolen from on his desk and wallet stolen from INSIDE his desk drawer. He brought his camera in to download pictures to share from our company picnic, nice huh. I'm still in shock and disgust that this happended and feel terrible for him. It turns out that another employee had her IPOD stolen last week.

It appears that our company won't replace anything he lost. I guess it makes sense since from a company standpoint, but it's sucky for the victim. I'm getting him a Best Buy gift card to put towards a new camera and a few other employees are going to contribute. In the end, I geniunely want him to walk away this summer with a good experience.

It has caused greater awareness at work and others are now locking up their file cabinets with valuables, but the cost of that was someone lost trust in co-workers. Or in Luke's words "it sucks to be a victim."

Cell phones or address books?

A few months joined the 21st century and finally bought a new cell phone. I figured that 4 years was enough for my tired phone. It's amazing what cell phones have become and how vital they for finding a phone number. Since my phone was too old, I had to write all the phone numbers down and I realized "Why are some of these people in here?" Granted some were work contacts, but there were people in there that I've never called and my phone served as an address book. I came across my written phone list this weekend and realized I didn't include a few numbers, hence my thinking on this topic. My realization is that I haven't needed the numbers in 3 months and I have them written down if I ever need them.

Pets are family too...

Whether you have a dog or cat (or some other animal), pets are really part of your family especially if you've had them for years. A few weeks ago, I had to put my cat Pumpkin to sleep and it was probably one of the most difficult things I've had to do. She has been sick for a while and I could tell she was getting sicker and was hiding in the house. Instead of being selfish, I made a hard decision but the right one. I've been thinking a lot about this lately and it bothers me even as I type this post. As difficult as things may be, GOD is there for us for the joys and sorrows of our lives...
